Learning through #Expochat

We recently participated in our first #Expochat, a conversation held on Twitter which anyone can join. But what is a tweet chat? A live Twitter event, usually moderated and focused around a general topic. To filter all the chatter on Twitter into a single conversation a hash tag is used and a set time is also established so that the moderator, guest or host is available to engage in the conversation.

Here you can see how the nature of the conversation works. Q1 posed by the moderator and A1 responses filter in from the attendees:

The purpose of this week’s #Expochat was to share some ways to better to integrate SoMe (social media) at events, expos, etc. and we found it to be very helpful. Brainstorming with others in the industry and bouncing ideas/opinions off each other is a great (and creative) way to learn. In addition to sharing some of our knowledge, we came away with a few awesome resources including the idea of a “trade show concierge,” and some new ways to build social media engagement by creating a memorable experience in the exhibit hall.

Still not convinced? “Tweet chats are great not only to learn more about subjects in which you are interested, but also to find new connections who share similar interests,” says Jen Lilienstein who leads digital marketing efforts for Touring & Tasting, a wine and travel marketing company. These tweeps are more likely to re-tweet or favorite your content and, as you do the same for them, they are more likely to introduce you to their social media audiences” (source).

#Expochats are held every Wednesday at 3PM ET. Here’s how you can join in next week!
